Hotel Tonight App

I was in Mexico City at the end of July and although it was not a weekend or a holiday, all the hotels I normally would have stayed at were full. I rarely make advance reservations for my trips to the capital and in this case I had just assumed I would be able to find a room, but I was wrong. I mentioned my situation to someone and they suggested I take a look at the Hotel Tonight App to see if I could find anything on there.
I had never heard of it, but I decided to download the app to my phone and give it a try.
A few options showed up as available for that night, and the rates for the majority of them were under $100. I happened to be in the Zona Rosa and I noticed one of the results was the Wyndham Garden Residences, which was just a few blocks away, and it was only $72 for the night.

I selected it, immediately paid for the night with my PayPal account and I was all set. The only thing left to do was get there. Since it was so close, I walked. I found it on a side street, a few blocks away from the Angel of Independence monument. At check-in I just gave my name and they already had my booking.
My room turned out to be a suite on the first floor with a king size bed, full-size kitchen and an office area. Wifi was included. I turned on the TV to keep me company, fired up my laptop, and got some work done before getting a very restful night's sleep. In the morning I realized that my suite didn't have much of a view: there was some heavy machinery just outside the window blocking any view of that which may have given the hotel its name, which may be why I was able to get this suite at such a sweet price, but really I was just happy to have a safe and comfortable place to rest my head for the night, and the hotel certainly fit the bill.
If you're like me and you sometimes like to just take things as they come and don't necessarily make reservations too far in advance of a trip, give Hotel Tonight a try. You can book up to one week in advance, so it doesn't have to be the very last minute.
